SML Book Club

The SML Book Club will be meeting on Wednesday December 6, 2023 at 4pm to discuss The Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley. The Firekeeper’s Daughter was a NYT bestseller and was named one of the top 100 YA books of all time by Time Magazine.   Here is a summary of the book from the author’s website:

As a biracial, unenrolled tribal member and the product of a scandal, Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in—both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation. When her family is struck by tragedy, Daunis puts her dreams on hold to care for her fragile mother. The only bright spot is meeting Jamie, the charming new recruit on her brother’s hockey team.

After Daunis witnesses a shocking murder that thrusts her into a criminal investigation, she agrees to go undercover. But the deceptions—and deaths—keep piling up and soon the threat strikes too close to home. How far will she go to protect her community if it means tearing apart the only world she’s ever known?

Boulley is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie tribe of Chippewa Indians and writes about her Ojibwe community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. an added bonus for this book discussion is that the author will be at Waupaca High School on Tuesday December 5th at 6:30pm and book club members will be attending this event as a group as well.

If you are interested in joining the discussion call the library at 920-596-2252.
